Middle Ages minis

The so-called "Carolingian" period extends between the 8th and 10th centuries. The origin of the name of the period finds its source in its two most illustrious representatives: Charles Martel and Charlemagne. The latter is at the origin of the creation of the "Frankish" or "Carolingian" empire (not to be confused with the Holy Roman Empire!) which will have important political repercussions for Europe in the following centuries. Heir to the geographical limits of the Merovingians of whom it is the continuity, the Carolingian territory evolved to give birth to the embryos of the current nations that are France and Germany. Carolingian society itself derives from Merovingian society with a significant contribution induced by the Carolingian reform. This, initiated under Charlemagne then promoted by his successors, influenced Western culture thanks in particular to the rediscovery of the Latin language and the promotion of the so-called liberal arts. From a political point of view, the administration is based on structures established under the Merovingians. Clerics and lay people occupy important administrative positions and the missi dominici control, from 782, the exercise of power over the regions by the agents of the king and then of the emperor from 800. Finally, dukes, counts and marquises are linked to the king and the emperor by vassal links which appear at this time. The succession is not yet hereditary (the king or the emperor always having control over the appointment of these functions) but tends to change towards the end of the period. Our figurines are designed to be able to play Carolingian troops representing all the periods and environments of the Carolingian space, with a Western dominance. You will therefore be able to play an army of Charlemagne as well as an army of Louis IV of East Francia.
